Ian Massa-Harris is a distinguished international make-up artist with over 26 years of experience spanning Film, TV, Theatre, Ballet, Opera, and Stage Musicals. He is also a highly respected tutor and lecturer, with more than 15 years dedicated to educating the next generation of makeup artists.

​

In 2020, Ian became a member of the prestigious BAFTA Crew, and in 2022, he was selected for the inaugural BAFTA Connect scheme, where he now proudly serves as a BAFTA Connect Artist. His commitment to the industry is further demonstrated through his role as a makeup mentor for BECTU, joining the BECTU LGBT Committee in 2022.

Ian's comprehensive skill set includes roles such as Film and TV Makeup Artist, Theatre Department Head, Makeup Lead, SFX and Prosthetic Application, Character and Crowd Makeup, Wig Dressing, Basic Hair Styling, Bald Cap Creation & Application, Airbrush & Body Painting, Lifecasting, and work in Ad Campaigns, Fashion, and Events.

He has worked with a host of renowned personalities, including Sir Ian McKellen, Eleanor Bron, Samantha Bond, Alison Steadman, Imelda Staunton, Amanda Donohoe, HRH Princess Royal, Christopher Biggins, and Gok Wan, among others.

Ian’s impressive client list includes organizations such as the UK and Swiss Governments, Hidden Door Productions, Shaune Harrison Academy, O2, Blue, Pride in London, Sky, BBC, ITV, Oreo, IMATS, Harvey Nichols, Baileys, and the Elton John AIDS Foundation, among many others.

Notable film and TV credits include Makeup Designer for Love Without Walls (2023), Lady M (2017), Bertie (2018), and Down (2019). He served as Makeup Department Head for The Knowledge (2023), Key Makeup Artist and Key Prosthetics Artist for Creatures (2021), and SFX Makeup Artist for The Man Who Fell to Earth (2022). He also contributed as Lead Makeup Artist and Special Makeup Effects Artist for Rock Band vs Vampires (2018).

Ian is actively engaged in teaching and demonstrating Media, SFX, and Prosthetics at Degree, BTEC, and City & Guilds levels across various colleges and universities in the UK. He is a regular demonstrator at trade shows such as IMATS & UMAe and collaborates with brands including Dashbo, Tilt, and Mehron UK. He holds the position of Senior Artist & SFX Department Head at Seventa Makeup Academy and serves as the Education Coordinator for Mehron UK/Treasure House of Makeup.

Currently, Ian is a brand ambassador for Mehron UK, a branch of Mehron Inc. He is sponsored by Mehron & Ben Nye through Treasure House of Makeup and Ten Image Pro UK. His training in Theatre & SFX began with Kryolan, under the mentorship of Ron Freeman, former Wig and Makeup Master at the Royal Opera House. Ian's qualifications include a BSc Hons, Diploma in Opera Performance, ENO Baylis Programme Knack, FHT Associate, City & Guilds III, ITEC III, and a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (PLTS).
